Hawaiian Reverie

The Teppy Mountain Retreat Center’s Great Room will feature an encircling frieze of dynamically illuminated stained glass. The perspective rendering shown here includes “place holder” imagery for the stained glass which is now in its preliminary design phase.
Rather than obscure the Great Room’s jaw-dropping views through its conventional windows, the stained glass will be mounted on the bulkhead that separates the second level from the upper clerestory. In lieu of natural daylight, the stained glass will be illuminated with a sandwich of recessed 2-way mirror and LED backlighting. Here’s how:
During the daytime, the mirror will reflect ambient light back out through the stained glass similar to “Arizona Arroyo“. Since the mirror will be recessed several inches, its reflections will interact with the actual stained glass in ever-shifting overlaps as viewers move past. At night LED panels will project programmable backlighting through both 2-way mirror and stained glass in a captivating dance of light.
Completion of “Hawaiian Reverie” is expected in 2027.
Materials: European mouthblown glass, lead, recessed 2-way mirror & LED panels.
