Hummingbird House

Fort Davis, Texas

Hummingbirds
Stairwell Landing Window: 3.0' w.by 8.0' h.

Located in Upper Limpia Canyon along one of the major flyways for at least sixteen species of hummingbird, the stained glass for this remote outpost of a house celebrates these tiny visitors. Filmy white German opalescent glass flutters in a background of clear mouthblown glasses. Flashes of color-shifting dichroic glass and cast lenses provide bright, fleeting color just as hummingbirds do during summer months in the canyon. Two companion windows are set in the stairwell banister where they integrate the main window with the slope of the railing.

Materials: German and French mouthblown glass, Domestic rolled glass, dichroic glass, hand-pressed lenses, lead and solder.
